Recording started on the 9th March 2019. The basic backing track was recorded from amp via a recently-bought compressor mic. At that point it was a short "quiet loud quiet" song about a lonely pony and a wonky donkey.
Many pedals were then purchased, including a TC Electronic Wiretap; all further "sessions" were recorded with this pedal. It's a lot less hassle than lugging amps and mics around. The song at this point went through several revisions. It became a tale about deserted medieval villages, then an ode to the soft golden haze of the morning. Nothing seemed to really work, however.
Finally I revisited a variety of old lyrics, some dating back to the mid-Nineties, and chopped them up and put them back together along with some new lines. Add in a number of synthetic sounding guitar lines (I've got far too many guitar pedals, most if not all of which ended up on this track at some point) and it's finally done.
There are 37 individual tracks appearing at various times in this song. At most there are eleven tracks playing at the same time.
It's E, Em all the way through.
lyrics
The sparkling unfettered peninsulas of my mind
Bisected atoms, a hungry thief
Penitent person seeks pain relief
Intermittent celebrations
After decades of degradation
A riot of creeps and marauders
The sky blinks and nobody shudders
No-one throws themselves to the ground
A cracked bacteria mosaic
Hills of petals, leagues of ribbons
We will emerge shell shocked and bitten
Half the time I care, half the time I don't
A quiet determined menace, it knows
I'm just looking for ways to amuse myself
Ways to amuse myself
An uncouth conclusion, substandard delusion
There is no solution, it's bad for the blood
God always answers with majestic silence
It's ominous, that sky, those horses, this eye
Moribund blasts, the horns cacophonous
An absence of hope, the deep blue nauseas
Mist and dust, the dark unjust
The cats creep and they slink
I've gazed upon the universe
Swept up by the flood
Does anyone know where it's taking us?
I'm just thinking of ways to amuse myself
Ways to amuse myself
I'm just thinking of ways to amuse myself
Ways to amuse myself
Tundra Cats make the world inexorably better, like a perpetual present made up of one continually changing apocalypse. Or something like that. A very slack band.
